My lastest chair designs

Sewing is what I do everyday. I sew fabric to create stunning, high art upholstery pieces.

I use only traditional upholstery methods that I learned from the great craftsmen of the USA. I have 30 years of experience in upholstery and slipcovering.

All my pieces are made with coiled springs hand tied eight ways with Italian spring twine on top of fresh webbing. I use organic cotton and blued tacks.

Cushions are usually made with down feathers to make for comfortable seating.

I use only the finest materials.  I reshape mid century curved back wing tip chairs to enhance the shape and to exaggerate the beautiful curves of the wood frame.

My new chairs are made from  3" inch thick red oak from Indiana, USA.

The fabrics I use are unique and aesthetically pleasing.  Two of my chairs display fabric created by the great artist Maija Isola of the Finnish textile company Marimekko.

I love to restore the Hollywood Regency chairs of the 1950s and 1960s.

Recommendation by Zach @ Bliss Made, Inc.

Joseph Andrew Montini Upholstery is fast! The quality is great... and the price is right. I was working on a hotel project in Montauk and we had no time to do the linens. He showed up on location, took measurements, and within a week the ENTIRE hotel was outfitted. He is delightful to work with. I would highly recommend Joseph and his company to all of my peers. Thank you!!!

Recommendation by Gary Thor Wedow -conductor and chorus master NYC Opera

A pleasure to recommend Joe Montini. He completely restored two Victorian chairs that were very dear to me for sentimental reasons. He strengthened and repaired them and restored the original upholstery. Really magnificent museum quality work. Then he reupholstered a charming antique piano stool with the most elaborate and dazzling tufted design. Then, he rebuilt a harpsichord stand. Through all of it he was completely sensitive to our needs and sentimental attachments and to the integrity of the antiques. He supplied us with beautiful documentation of the chair's journey. He is a real artist.

Recommendation by Steve Hindy- president of Brooklyn Brewery

Joe reupholstered and restored two beautiful club chairs for my home in Brooklyn. I highly recommend his craftsmanship.

Recommendation by wc miller

Joe Montini reupholstered an entire sectional sofa for me. His attention to detail is amazing as proven in the tufting work that he did. He gave the couch new life. Joe also rebuilt an antique club chair for me. He stripped it completely, added new springs and then covered it in new leather which he hand sewed on. I highly recommend Joe Montini for upholstering. His chairs are absolutely beautiful and more importantly, comfortable to sit in.

My book of piano music will always be a work in progress....

I sew from 9 to 5 everyday and then it's time to blow sax and flute.

I play saxophone and flute throughout the evening.  Then it's time to compose at the piano.

My written compositions are documented using my old Kawai Piano and my 1980's Otari 8-Track half inch tape analogue recorder.

This year I celebrate 45 years of blowing saxophone.
